OUR COACHES/STAFF

Maxx Matushima

Head Coach/owner
-My industry experience has spanned over 15 years and has covered a variety of roles in multiple aquatic disciplines. I began my teaching career teaching swim lessons at my local swim club the Mission Viejo Nadadores and nearby YMCA. I progressed to head coach the YMCA’s porpoise swim team and at the same time began instructing junior lifeguards at Lake Mission Viejo. I then became lead instructor and also got an opportunity to coach my former high school's boys water polo and swim teams. I got a chance to coach the freshman, sophomore, junior varsity and assist the head coach with varsity teams. At the same time I was coaching age group club water polo boys and girls ages 8-18. Moving to San Diego brought me back to the core swim lessons where I realized all the opportunities being a competitive swimmer had brought me and it has inspired me to show young swimmers what it can bring them too.

Leila Ghorishi

Director of Operations/Assistant coach
-Since the age of 2, I've immersed myself in swimming, joining a YMCA team at 4. The love for swimming deepened, standing out among various sports during middle and high school—lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and basketball. As I navigated these diverse athletic experiences, my commitment to swimming only strengthened. In high school, I proudly served as the team captain for two years, leading and inspiring my fellow swimmers. This role not only honed my leadership skills but also reinforced my unwavering passion for the water. Being a captain was a gratifying journey, cementing swimming as a vital part of my identity and growth.

Andrea Young

Assistant coach
-I am originally from Burbank, California. I began my competitive swimming career at the age of 8. I swam competitively for several years. Swimming has taught me that persistent hard work and a goal oriented mindset will lead to great outcomes. Through my experience in college I was named All American in individual and relay events and led my team to win State Conference
